Wyoming Sweeps Games At Santa Ana Star Casino

Santa Ana Star Casino was rocking tonight as it hosted the sixth annual Gildan New Mexico Bowl team dinner, catered by Rudy's BBQ. Wyoming left with a sweep of the games that entertained all in attendance.

The first event of the evening was a friendly game of Survey Says, which is similar to Family Feud. Hosted by Gus Davis, the teams sent of five offensive players for a three-question round, followed by five defensive players, then five coaches. For the final round, the two highest scoring teams squared off.

The first round was dominated by the Cowboys. They swept the first two boards, building a 300-0 lead. On the third question, "Name a favorite sport for a 10-year-old," Temple finally got a chance to answer, going for the steal with "tennis" but it wasn't on the board, giving Wyoming a 585-0 win.

In round two, the Owl defense jumped out with an early 95-0 lead. Wyoming fired back, taking the second question, "Name something you put on a baked potato." Temple initially took control of the question but couldn't figure out the sixth answer. The Coyboys stole 198 point with, "Chili."

Temple clinched the round on the final question, "Name a reason the person in front of you is driving slowly." Wyoming had possession of the board but could only come up with three of the six answers. Temple won, 341-198, with the fourth most-said answer, "traffic."

Wyoming grabbed a 268-0 lead after two questions in round 3 before the Owls soared to life. Coach Sean McGowan buzzed in with the top answer (books) to the question, "Name something you find in a backpack." The Temple players got on their feet and huddled at the base of the stage to cheer on their leaders. The Owl coaches rattled off seven of the top eight answers before posting their first strike. In the end, coach Kevin Kroboth said iPod and was booed by a large portion of the crowd. He had the last laugh, clinching the 318-268 victory.

The finals pitted the Temple coaches vs. the Wyoming offense. The game was in Wyoming's favor, 174-96, heading into the final question of the night. Wyoming took control with the top answer (money) to, "Name something you would need to be the next Hugh Heftner." The Cowboys posted four of the top six answers before opening the door for Temple. The Owls went for the steal with "magazine" but it wasn't on the board, giving Wyoming the 438-96 win.

The teams went upstairs to Starlight Lanes and each athlete bowled a game. Then the coaches selected their top five bowlers and the schools competed in a Baker style bowl-off. The teams were separated by four lanes and rolled at the same time. Wyoming rode off to an insurmountable lead, posting a spare or strike on their first eight frames. The final score was 172-147.

Tomorrow is the final day of events for gameday. The teams will enjoy a lunch at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino with keynote speaker Archie Manning at 11:30 a.m.
