Fifth Annual Game Remains on Saturday Before Christmas ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- For the fifth year in a row, the New Mexico Bowl will be played in Albuquerque on the Saturday before Christmas. ESPN Regional Television announced today that the fifth annual New Mexico Bowl will take place Saturday, Dec. 18 in University Stadium. The game will be televised nationally on ESPN and ESPN HD. Kickoff time is slated for noon (12 p.m.) MT. “We’re excited to once again showcase our great state and city and be able to treat fans to another Saturday afternoon game,” said Jeff Siembieda, New Mexico Bowl executive director. “This community has embraced the New Mexico Bowl and taken great pride in its growth and we look forward to building on this tradition with the fifth edition of this event.” The 2009 New Mexico Bowl was one of the best and most exciting games of the entire bowl season. Trailing by 11 points in the fourth quarter, Wyoming, led by freshman quarterback Austin Carta-Samuels, rallied to tie the score and force overtime. After stopping Fresno State’s Ryan Mathews three times at the goal line in the first overtime, Carta-Samuels found David Leonard for a 13-yard touchdown in the second extra period for the eventual winning score. The Cowboys pulled out the thrilling double-overtime victory, 35-28. -New Mexico Bowl-
