2016 GILDAN NEW MEXICO BOWL

NEW MEXICO LOBOS VS. UTSA ROADRUNNERS

The Gildan New Mexico Bowl is kicking off the FBS postseason with an incredible match-up. The New Mexico Lobos are back for the second consecutive year, facing the UTSA Roadrunners. We anticipate an entertaining game as these two programs meet for the thrid time in four years. Both teams are thirsty for a bowl victory. USTA is eligible for the first time in the program's brief six-year history. New Mexico is making its 13th bowl game in school history at UNM's fourth in the Gildan New Mexico Bowl. The Lobos are appearing in their seventh bowl game since 2002, with their last three appearances coming in the 2006, 2007 and 2015 Gildan New Mexico Bowls.

The first bowl game is set as the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl announced on Monday that Conference USA’s Old Dominion and the MAC’s Eastern Michigan will play in the Dec. 23 game. That means of the 80 bowl spots, three have been claimed with BYU accepting an invitation to the San Diego Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl after the Cougars picked up their sixth win in week 11. There are 75 bowl eligible programs after week 13 and three that could still get eligible. There are 50 teams that have been eliminated but at least two 5-7 teams will be selected to play in a bowl based on their APR ranking.
